You’ve heard of “the freshman 15?” It refers to the weight many students gain when they leave home to attend college. The Mission Project had it’s own version, with almost every participant gaining weight when they left home to join The Mission Project.


To help participants stay healthy, The Mission Project instituted Healthwise, which teaches participants how to plan, shop for and cook nutritious meals. The Mission Project also provides participants with membership at Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center, which offers a range of fitness activities, such as Zumba, swimming, Fitness with Lee and karate.
