October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to recognize the contributions of employees with disabilities and promote inclusive workplaces. At The Mission Project, we help individuals with developmental disabilities live independently and succeed in the workforce.
The Importance of Employment for Individuals with Disabilities
Employment offers individuals with disabilities purpose, independence, and a sense of belonging. Many of The Mission Project’s participants have held their jobs for years, demonstrating that with the right support, long-term success is achievable.
Less than 1/3 of working-age indivicuals with IDD work – but 100% of The Mission Project participants do!!!
How Transportation Supports Disability Employment
Reliable transportation is crucial to maintaining employment. At The Mission Project, the transportion provided ensure participants can get to work on time, every single day. This consistency allows them to sustain employment and grow in their careers.
MP Transportation provides about 6000 rides each year to participants!!
Supporting Long-Term Success
The Mission Project goes beyond job placement by offering job coaching, skill development, and dependable transportation. This ongoing support has allowed many of our participants to remain in their roles for years, building strong relationships with their employers and contributing meaningfully to their communities.
How Businesses Can Promote Inclusion
Businesses can make a difference by:
– Hiring inclusively: Actively recruit individuals with disabilities.
– Providing accommodations: Ensure accessibility and necessary tools.
– Promoting disability awareness: Build a culture of inclusivity.
